Incredibles 2 (2018)

2018! Happy New Year! I hope that you are looking forward to all the things that 2018 will bring. And if you have been waiting for 14 years for a sequel to “The Incredibles”, well, 2018 is already looking like a winner. Incredibles 2 (2018) will be released on June 15, 2018 – and you can check out the first trailer, which is more of a teaser than a trailer at the Incredibles 2 (2018) page.

Since we are starting things off fresh with a new year, I think I will take a few moments to comment on a few of the recurring themes that make their way into my inbox. If you are a new visitor to the site, welcome, I am glad you are here. This should help.

Where did the 3D trailers go?
3D Video

One of the most asked questions relates to the absence of 3D trailers. My press access only provides 2D trailers. There was a time when a kind soul would send me some 3D content that he, she, or they could get their hands on. This is no longer that case, and therefore 2D is what I am providing. There is concern about the future of 3D in the home anyway. LG and Sony stopped including 3D in their 2017 models – and they were the last to drop support. So if you love 3D at home you may want to stock up on 3D HDTVs. 3D is still being supported on projectors. So with the display segment of the hardware market all but abandoning 3D, it is probably safe to assume that the software side will not be around a whole lot longer. I am sorry to break the bad news to you.

Why don’t you provide 4K trailers?

4K UHD Blu-ray

4K UHD Blu-ray

I have uploaded every 4K trailer that I received, which was the Online Nemesis Trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight. You can get it here, all 1.1 GBs of it. The reason I don’t provide 4K is that the studios do not provide 4K. You may be thinking that there are 4K trailers on youtube. Well, I suspect that most of them are up-conversions from a 1920×1080 source. If Sony puts out a 1080p trailer for Into the Spider-Verse on youtube and FilmTrailer4K has 4K on theirs…well, you have to wonder. And by the way here is the official Sony youtube upload, and what appears to be a fake 4K upload. See what I mean? The Sony 1080p looks way better than that 4K upload. Of course, it doesn’t look as good as my encode!

Will you ever get 4K trailers?

This is another excellent question, and I believe the answer is yes – but probably not for a long time. It is rare for a film to be released theatrically in 4K yet alone the trailer. It is still very much a 2K world. A film may be shot digitally in 6K, but the post production is often completed in 2K. Then the movie is released to cinemas in 2K. Until 4K becomes the norm, we will likely remain in a 2K world. Sorry to break that news to you too.

When will you upload the IMAX Countdown to Blade Runner 2049?

IMAX

IMAX

I have no idea if I will ever upload another IMAX Countdown trailer. I was getting those from someone who likely had access to some unencrypted materials and did some things that he, she, or they probably should not have been doing. I have not heard from this person in a while – I hope they are ok.

Why are you upmixing stereo trailers when modern receivers can do that?
Another question I frequently receive, and I have been doing a lot of thinking about this lately. When I started the site, the intent was to provide quality materials with 5.1 audio. I provide studio 5.1 mixes when available. Sometimes I get dialogue, music and effects tracks Рand I put together an unofficial 5.1 mix. The results have been really good. But when I only receive a stereo master, I need to make a decision. In the beginning, I just did not post the materials or promote the film. Then I tried upmixing. Then I went to Stereo. Now I am back to upmixing with stereo included. Upmixing stereo is not ideal, and really does not provide a lot of value for you Рand I can probably do better things with my time. And as has been pointed out by many visitors Рa modern receiver will upmix to Dolby Surround or DTS Neo X, or even Auro 3D if you have a really expensive receiver, like this one. From now on, I am going to move away from upmixing stereo.

Why don’t you encode in DTS-HD Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD?
Dolby Atmos Receivers

PCM is lossless and free. DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD require expensive licenses and a Mac.

Why won’t the .mkv file play on the PS4?

The .mkv file will play on the PS4. Your USB needs to be formatted to Fat32 or exFAT. NTFS will not work.
