Here is the first trailer for Dwayne Johnson’s Skyscraper (2018). The .mp4 contains the official stereo mix in AC3. The .mkv file contains the official stereo mix in PCM, DTS and AC3. I added a PCM 5.1 upmix as well.
Here is our first look at Disney / Marvel Studios Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), which is due July 6, 2018. I am quite looking forward to this sequel having watched the first installment just a few weeks ago with my son. We have been on a Marvel Cinematic Universe binge the past month, in anticipation for Avengers: Infinity War (2018). We are all caught up, and are waiting anxiously for Thor: Ragnarok (2017) to be released on Blu-ray – hopefully in time to catch Black Panther (2018) in theaters.
Now, the release of the Ant-Man trailer actually puts more emphasis on the missing trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). Some are beginning to speculate that the trailer has not been released because the film’s release date may be pushed back to December from May. It would also be a neat experiment to see how well the marketing goes without a trailer – as in, the absence of a trailer creating as much buzz as having the trailer – and everyone will go into the film completely unspoiled. That would be a new approach for such a big name film, and one that could likely work in this case. The other speculation is that there will be a 30 or 45 second clip during the Super Bowl (Disney has purchased two spots), with the full trailer to drop on-line immediately after. If that is the case, I will be ready on Sunday. If the trailer does not show up on Sunday, I think the odds of the release date changing will go up – or the marketing strategy for this one is not going by the book.
The second trailer for Tomb Raider (2018) has been released, and I mixed this one using the dialogue, music and effects tracks. You can find the new trailer at the Tomb Raider (2018) page!
Solo: A Star Wars Story trailer release date update:
The latest rumours suggest that the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) will drop today, or during the Super Bowl. Or anywhere in between. The lack of a trailer so close to the release is causing a mix of excitement and concern. I am not worried yet, but what is the hold up? If you want to know when I upload the trailer, be sure to subscribe by email, or follow thedigitaltheater on facebook or twitter. You will be notified as soon as it is available on the site.
The second trailer (Trailer C) for Red Sparrow was released today, and you can find high quality stereo encodes at the Red Sparrow (2018) page.
There have been a few rumours swirling around about the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) would be released tonight on ESPN, but apparently it looks like the third trailer for Black Panther (2018) will show tonight. I expect to have it here before too long. If that is the case, it is expected that the Solo trailer will debut on Good Morning America on Friday, January 12. The last time I checked, this was unconfirmed – and it still is as of this writing. And since Disney, Lucasfilm and Marvel has been consistently supplying 5.1 mixes, I expect those two trailers to have official 5.1 mixes.
2018! Happy New Year! I hope that you are looking forward to all the things that 2018 will bring. And if you have been waiting for 14 years for a sequel to “The Incredibles”, well, 2018 is already looking like a winner. Incredibles 2 (2018) will be released on June 15, 2018 – and you can check out the first trailer, which is more of a teaser than a trailer at the Incredibles 2 (2018) page.
Since we are starting things off fresh with a new year, I think I will take a few moments to comment on a few of the recurring themes that make their way into my inbox. If you are a new visitor to the site, welcome, I am glad you are here. This should help.
Where did the 3D trailers go?
One of the most asked questions relates to the absence of 3D trailers. My press access only provides 2D trailers. There was a time when a kind soul would send me some 3D content that he, she, or they could get their hands on. This is no longer that case, and therefore 2D is what I am providing. There is concern about the future of 3D in the home anyway. LG and Sony stopped including 3D in their 2017 models – and they were the last to drop support. So if you love 3D at home you may want to stock up on 3D HDTVs. 3D is still being supported on projectors. So with the display segment of the hardware market all but abandoning 3D, it is probably safe to assume that the software side will not be around a whole lot longer. I am sorry to break the bad news to you.
Why don’t you provide 4K trailers?
I have uploaded every 4K trailer that I received, which was the Online Nemesis Trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight. You can get it here, all 1.1 GBs of it. The reason I don’t provide 4K is that the studios do not provide 4K. You may be thinking that there are 4K trailers on youtube. Well, I suspect that most of them are up-conversions from a 1920×1080 source. If Sony puts out a 1080p trailer for Into the Spider-Verse on youtube and FilmTrailer4K has 4K on theirs…well, you have to wonder. And by the way here is the official Sony youtube upload, and what appears to be a fake 4K upload. See what I mean? The Sony 1080p looks way better than that 4K upload. Of course, it doesn’t look as good as my encode!
Will you ever get 4K trailers?
This is another excellent question, and I believe the answer is yes – but probably not for a long time. It is rare for a film to be released theatrically in 4K yet alone the trailer. It is still very much a 2K world. A film may be shot digitally in 6K, but the post production is often completed in 2K. Then the movie is released to cinemas in 2K. Until 4K becomes the norm, we will likely remain in a 2K world. Sorry to break that news to you too.
Why won’t the .mkv file play on the PS4?
The .mkv file will play on the PS4. Your USB needs to be formatted to Fat32 or exFAT. NTFS will not work.
This will likely be the last update of 2017. I am heading out for holidays in a few hours, and I am looking forward to the break. I have added a lot of trailers in the past few hours. First up is Trailer 1 for Sicario 2: Soldado (2018), which as its name implies is the sequel to the 2015 film, Sicario. Sicario is a film that I have had all the intentions of seeing, but it has not happened yet. It is still on my list. The first trailer was mixed from the individual dialogue, music and effects tracks.
The Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) page has been updated to include the Russian official 5.1 mix. Also updated is Annihilation (2018), to include the new second trailer. Like the first one, this contains a 5.1 upmix from the PCM stereo source. And finally, Ready Player One (2018) includes Trailer 2A, which was also mixed from the dialogue, music and effects tracks.
I want to thank all of you for making 2017 so great. I look forward to continuing to provide you with the best quality trailers in the world, in 2018.
Looking for unique videos to add to your home cinema pre-show experience? Well, look no further, as I have just added two new pre-show trailers: Cosmic Boom – Coming Soon and Cosmic Boom – Feature Presentation. Both are high bit rate (80 Mbps) mkv files and feature a variety of audio options (PCM 7.1/5.1, DTS 5.1 and AC3 5.1) As well, there is a lower bitrate mp4 with AC3 audio if you have issues playing back mkv files.
Here is the first look at the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse which will be released next December. The animation style is really beautiful and you can find the trailer at the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) page.
Another up-mix for 20th Century Fox. Trailer C for Maze Runner: The Death Cure has been released today. The film will be released on January 28, 2018. As this is an up-mix, I included the official stereo track on the .mkv file, for those who are interested.
