Captain America: Civil War (2016) Trailer 2 Fixed

Captain America: Civil War
Captain America: Civil War

It seems as though I did something wrong with Trailer 2 for Captain America: Civil War. Sync was off as was the frame rate, I am happy to say that I believe that the issue has been fixed, and new versions are now available at the Captain America: Civil War page. I am not quite sure what happened, but in the end I had to add a delay on the audio for the .mkv, and then used Handbrake to create the .mp4 from the .mkv file. These files play back in Plex and VLC without issues.

I mentioned that I have had a lot on the go lately, and part of that is due to a pending move – once we find a buyer for our house. The plus side to this is a happy wife, but also the ability to build a proper home cinema. I think it will be an interesting process, and I will document the journey here as I go along.

Finding Dory (2016) Trailer 2 – 1080p FLAC and AC3 5.1

Finding Dory

It has been a while since I have updated the site, but I have been working on some content and I should have some things to upload in the coming days, including some requests for IMAX trailers and the 2D version of Batman vs Superman trailer F4. Unfortunately, my time has been stretched a little thin lately, and my wife has decided that we should move – so that is not helping with time management.

Trailer 2 for Finding Dory is now available, and I have a lossless FLAC 5.1 .mkv as well as an AC3 5.1 .mp4. They can be found at the Finding Dory page.

Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) Experimental – Pass 2

Independence Day: Resurgence

Here is an update from my audio experiment on Sunday. I have been doing some research and along with the feedback provided by readers, I remixed the track from scratch. The source is 2.0 PCM 24 bit, and the goal is to create a track that sounds better than what a pro-logic decoder can produce.

I received a few different and conflicting remarks, so I thought it would be best to create each track at the same peak level, and to leave enough headroom for any dynamic adjustments. Even though I used the same processors, my overall approach on the new mix was totally different.

Below are some graphs that show the sound levels between the old mix, and the new.  (more…)

Pete’s Dragon (2016) Trailer 1 HD FLAC and AC3 5.1

Pete’s Dragon

Coming to theaters this August is a remake of Pete’s Dragon, and I must say that to me, it looks better than The Jungle Book. The teaser trailer is available at the Pete’s Dragon page as a .mkv with FLAC 5.1 or an .mp4 with AC3 5.1

I have only heard from one person regarding the IDR “Experimental” mix, so if you have any opinion on it, please do so in the comments section at the Independence Day: Resurgence page.

Independence Day Resurgence (2016) Experimental Trailer B – AC3 5.1

Independence Day: Resurgence

We have all been patiently waiting for a 5.1 version of the Independence Day: Resurgence trailer, and so far 20th Century Fox has only provided a 2 channel stereo version. I have decided to do some experimenting using some audio processors with the goal of creating a track that sounds better than the result of a stereo track played back using Pro-Logic II or Neo: 6 processing. I think I have done so, and the result is similar to what I recall hearing in the cinema when the trailer played ahead of The Force Awakens.

Obviously this is not ideal, but it should be better than the default 2 channel version until we can get a proper encode.  This is an experiment, and I do want your feedback. Is this worth doing for trailers that are not available in native 5.1? Does this sound better than 2.0 with Pro-Logic decoding?

Please try it out, and compare it with a stereo version. From my set up, I found this to have a much wider sound stage, greater dynamics, and a more powerful LFE than a Neo: 6 decode. The experimental trailer can be found at the Independence Day: Resurgence page.
