Star Wars week continues here at The Digital Theater. I just added a DTS-HD Master Audio encode of Trailer 3 to The Force Awakens trailers page. A special thanks to Rodrigo Faria, who was kind enough to do the DTS-HD MA encode.

Star Wars – The Force Awakens Trailer 3 1080p PCM 5.1 and AC3 5.1

The Force Awakens One Sheet
The Force Awakens One Sheet

The wait is over! Enjoy the full trailer for Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens in full 5.1 audio – the way it was meant to be heard. I did say that it would be in DTS-HD MA, but it is not. It is in full uncompressed LPCM 5.1 which technically is better. If a DTS encode is available I will add it as well.

The mkv with LPCM 5.1 and the mp4 with Dolby 5.1 are now available at the Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens trailers page.

Also, it appears that this trailer will not be shown in theaters. It was not listed as new content for this week by technicolor, and the file was named “broadcast” trailer, so the debut on Monday night football may be it.

Don’t forget to get your tickets!

In case you are wondering – I am not just uploading a ready-made file. The files I get require a lot of manual processing before I can upload them to you, and it is never a straightforward process. Each file seems to have its own challenges. For this trailer, when I did the QA on the PCM version, about 30 seconds in the sound went out.  I had to trace it back to the first cut of the mkv I made, and then I had to re-mix the pcm audio, and re-do the transcode, re-do the cut transcode, and re-upload. I am one man doing this on my own, it took me two hours, and I did it all before I went to work this morning so that you could have access to it as soon as possible.

The Force Awakens Trailer 3 – Current Best Quality

The Force Awakens One Sheet

I would not do this for any other trailer, but I have temporarily added the 2 channel audio version in the current highest bitrate available. We should have the 5.1 DTS-HD MA this time tomorrow, but until then we will go with this.

It is quite frustrating really.  Disney released pro-res versions of fan reactions to the screening of the trailer at Disney World, but not the trailer…

Check back (or like us on facebook) for the 5.1 version. The 2.0 version can be found at The Force Awakens trailers page.

The Force Awakens Trailer 3 Update

The Force Awakens
The Force Awakens

A few days ago, I mentioned that there was some rumours that the latest trailer for The Force Awakens will be released on Monday, October 19th.

These rumours appear to be true and the general thought is that it will appear on TV during Monday night football. I am not sure if that is the right target audience, but it is a wide audience. As far as timing goes, it looks like the next few days will go like this:

Today: Some theaters will begin ticket pre-sales for The Force Awakens.

Sunday: Disney will release the official one-sheet (poster).

Monday: Trailer 3 will be released around 8PM (EST).

So, the next question will be: when will we get it in 5.1 audio? I think that it will first be released in 2 channel stereo. The main distribution service we use only has 2 channel versions of the first two, so I don’t expect them to have a multi channel version available on Monday. But if history is a guide, it will only be a day or two until it is available. Rest assured, that we will have it as soon as possible. Along with the 3D version.

The Force Awakens Trailer 3 – Coming Monday?

The Force Awakens
The Force Awakens

In some interesting news, there are some rumours floating around the internet that the first and final trailer (the first two were technically teasers) for Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens will “drop” on Monday October 19th with Disney set to make an announcement on Sunday October 18th. I do not know if it is true or not, but that will be just two months from the theatrical release of the film in December – so the window seems right. We will be on the lookout for that.

If you have not done so, check out the Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens page where we have the first two trailers (teasers) in a variety of formats, including 3D!

And in even more speculation, some feel that the first real teaser for Independence Day: Resurgence will appear in theaters with The Force Awakens.  That seems like a good pairing, so we may only be two months away from the first look at what will be a contender for the big movie of 2016.

The 33 (2015) Trailer 1 1080p HD AC3 5.1 / DTS-HD MA 5.1

The 33
The 33

Based upon the Chilean mine disaster, where 33 miners were trapped underground for 69 days.

The 33 will likely be a great sound experience with lots of atmospheric sounds in the mine, as well as the collapse. This has lots of potential especially since Alan Rankin is the sound designer. His credits include Star Trek (2009) and Iron Man 3. Both sounded great. And Mike Prestwood Smith is a sound re-recording mixer, who is also credited with Casino Royale and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.

Trailer 1 can be found at The 33 trailers page.
