I have a bunch of new files to upload tonight, and I am starting with an experimental mix of trailer 2 for Assassin’s Creed. If you are new to this site, let me explain a few things. I built this site because I was tired of only having 2 channel stereo trailers for playback in my home theater, and the growing use of youtube as the preferred choice of studios to release their trailers was great for a phone or tablet, but not at all adequate for a proper home theater system.
At thedigitaltheater.com, I am featuring trailers with 5.1 audio (sometimes 7.1) and most of these are mixed by me with great care, to provide the most effective presentation in a home theater. The source of these trailers is the HD masters, which come in two different formats that require transcoding for playback on consumer based software or consoles. Some of these files contain the studio mixes of the trailers, with 6 individual PCM tracks that I mix into one stream for playback (usually FLAC and AC3). Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a example of a film with such trailers, as well as all Disney and Marvel films on this site.
Most of the trailers come with multiple audio streams, with a stereo mix, a stereo effects track, a stereo music track, and a dialogue track. In that case, I create a mix using the individual elements, and the results are quite good. If you like how the Resident Evil: The Final Chapter trailers sound, well, that is an example of a custom mix created by me with the individual elements.
The less desirable mixes are ones created from a stereo mix. I have been experimenting on ways to edit a stereo track and create a good multi channel mix from it – with the goal to have it sound better than what an on-board surround processor can accomplish. These mixes are indicated on the site as “Experimental” and I have only done a few of them. X-Men: Apocalypse, Independence Day: Resurgence, and Assassin’s Creed all have “Experimental Mixes” as well as studio mixes. I invite you to compare them against the studio mix and playback of a 2.0 mix using your receiver to do the upmix to surround.
That took longer to explain than I planned! Here is the new “Experimental Mix” of Assassin’s Creed Trailer 2. If you like the work that I do, you can help support the site by making a purchase at any of those Amazon links that appear on the site. You don’t even have to purchase the item that it is linked to – anything purchased after clicking a link on this site will result in a commission. So why not go shopping? You can also donate to the site. Your support is greatly appreciated.
More to come!
Cool, thanks so much for the info and the trailer!! Been waiting for you to get it, especially since the version uploaded by Fox itself on YouTube is not only stereo audio, but more importantly, has serious video macroblocking issues. Your high quality work (both video and audio) never disappoints! Thanks again and keep it up good sir! 😀
