Set against the drama of the space race, Fly Me to the Moon (2024) stars Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson. The film was acquired by Apple in a $100 million deal in 2022. A key point of the plot is that NASA filmed a fake moon landing as a back-up in case they were unable to land or broadcast the real footage, which leans into the classic conspiracy theory that the moon landing was faked. While this film is loosely based on historic events, there does not seem to be any evidence to suggest that they actually did film a fake moon landing. NASA did however, use journalists and an open book policy to build public support for the mission to the moon.

In this context we have Scarlett Johansson play a marketing wiz brought in to fix NASA’s public image, which causes pain for the launch director played by Channing Tatum. It is a romantic comedy set during the space race. Fly Me to the Moon (2024) hits theaters on July 12, 2024.
