If you are looking for a dark romantic comedy to take your better half to see this Valentine’s day, Lisa Frankenstein (2024) may be a good choice for you. The first feature film to be directed by Zelda Williams and written by Diablo Cody (Juno 2007) stars Kathryn Newton as Lisa, a teenager who finds love by bringing a corpse back to life. You will know Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023).

Hello everyone! Let’s start this week with another entry in the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Kraven the Hunter (2024) is an origin story of one of Marvel’s most notorious villains. Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as Sergei Kravenoff aka Kraven, along with Russell Crowe who seems to play Sergei’s dad. Directed by J. C. Chandor who also directed Margin Call (2011), which is a film I really enjoyed. If you have never watched it, I suggest you do. Of note, this is the first R-Rated Sony/Marvel film (expected to be, the film is not yet rated).
The first trailer for Kraven the Hunter (2024) is available in 4K with lossless video and the official 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio sound track. I wonder if we will get a Red Band trailer. Kraven the Hunter (2024) arrives in IMAX on December 13, 2024.

We will get the new year started with Madame Web (2024) which is in Sony’s Spider-Man extended multi-verse – along with Venom (2018) and Morbius (2021). That reminds me, I have not watched Morbius yet.
Madame Web (2024) stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities, as indicated in the trailer. Fun fact: Dakota Johnson is the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. This trailer makes great use of your LFE and there are some nice music effects spread across the soundscape. Lossless UHD and HD versions with 5.1 audio are available at the Madame Web (2024) page. This origin story is scheduled for release in theaters on February 16, 2024.
Site Update
You may have noticed that things look a little different here. While things were quiet I did some upgrading – well, I hope they are upgrades – in an effort to streamline the experience and provide more consistency across devices. Admittedly, this site was intended for desktop as the contents require downloading and playback using an AVR to get the full benefit. But I do get a lot of mobile traffic who may just want to check things out, bookmark and download when they are at home. This should make things better for them.

The site architecture is based upon movie pages, and posts that link to the movie page. This has not changed. Clicking on the link to the film, for example: Madame Web (2024) will take you to that movie’s page. Here is the first trailer for Civil War (2024), directed by Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Ex Machina, Annihilation) and staring Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, Game Night) and Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man). As the title implies, it is about a civil war, and in this case a present day civil war in America – which seems to be more possible as time goes on. The first trailer is available in HD with 422 10 bit encodes and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.
A look back on 2023
2023 was an up and down year here at thedigitaltheater.com. We started strong in January, but then we were taken offline by Dolby®. After a few weeks, and their refusal to allow me to keep hosting their demo trailers, we were back on line. This year had more posts than any year since 2019 – which was an all time high. Twenty-six films were featured, though two were removed. Overall I encoded and uploaded over 350 files. Which took a considerable amount of effort.
Unfortunately, ad revenue has declined by over 70% which is significant. At that level, revenue from advertising does not cover the costs of hosting the site. I am hoping that this turns around. Visitors are down a bit, but not by an amount that would translate to a corresponding loss of revenue. If you have an ad-blocker, please white list this site.
I am hopeful for a strong 2024.

From the “twisted mind of Matthew Vaughn” comes Argylle (2024), a story about a novelist (Bryce Dallas Howard) who get’s caught up in a world of intrigue. You know Matthew Vaughn from the Kingsman series and he brings his distinctive style and an expansive cast including Catherine O’Hara, Henry Cavill, Sofia Boutella, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Dua Lipa and the one and only Samuel L. Jackson.
I have added the first trailer in HD with the official 5.1 audio track. Argylle (2024) is scheduled for theatrical release on February 2, 2024.
I have also updated The Fall Guy (2024) page to include the extended version of Trailer 1, which has a run time of 3:20. This one only has a stereo audio track.

Just a quick update this morning to let you know that the Dune: Part Two (2024) page has been updated to include the 4K version of IMAX Trailer 8, in the 1.90:1 aspect ratio with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio! I still have some more to post this week, so follow me on Facebook or X for updates.
I am starting to lose track of all the trailers I have uploaded to the Dune: Part Two (2024) page. I just added the online IMAX version of Trailer 6 as well as the 4K version of Trailer 8. Trailer 8 is a slightly shorter version of Trailer 6 (about 15 seconds). The aspect ratios are different as well. Trailer 6 has the IMAX 1.90:1 aspect while Trailer 8 is 2.39:1. The other major difference is the audio. Trailer 6 has a stereo track, while Trailer 8 contains the full 5.1 mix in DTS-HD Master Audio. I have uploaded multiple encodes and file types as usual. There are now 32 files!

I remember watching ‘The Fall Guy’ tv series back in the early 1980s. I don’t recall the character, Colt Seavers (played by Lee Majors) as a stunt man. In my memories he was a bounty hunter who drove a cool looking GMC truck. The description of the show at IMDB says that he was a stunt man who moonlighted as a bounty hunter when movie work was slow. I just remember the bounty hunter aspect. 40 years later, Colt Seavers is back – on the big screen – played by Ryan Gosling. He is a stunt man and does not appear to do any bounty hunting at all. That takes care of the origins.
The Fall Guy (2024) is directed by David Leitch, who also directed John Wick, Deadpool 2 (2018), and Bullet Train (2022). Joining Ryan Gosling is Emily Blunt who plays the love interest. Written by Drew Pearce whose credits include Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) and Iron Man 3, The Fall Guy promises to be an action packed good time at the movies.

As mentioned earlier, I have uploaded the Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) page with the 4K IMAX version of Trailer 1. And like Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire (2024) it is not in the IMAX ratio but 2.39:1. Judging by the technical specs from IMDB and since the tag line says ‘experience it in IMAX’ instead of ‘filmed for IMAX’ it looks as though it does not have any IMAX shots. It will still look and sound fantastic in an IMAX theater, but it is unfortunate that George Miller did not take advantage of the extra screen real estate.
