The Batman (2022) DC FanDome Teaser 4K/1080p DTS-HD MA and AC3 5.1 17

The Batman (2021)

Expected release date March 4, 2022. Robert Pattinson takes a turn as the caped crusader, a character who first appeared in 1939. That is 81 years ago! The teaser for ‘The Batman’ was revealed during DC FanDome almost a week ago. There was a 4K version uploaded to Vimeo by director Matt Reeves. A couple days ago I was able to get a 1080p ProRes master along with the dialogue, music and effects tracks. Over in the User Uploaded Trailers section Donnie uploaded a 1080p version with a 5.1 mix, likely from the DME tracks as well. Here I am featuring the 4K Vimeo encode with a 5.1 mix I did from the dialogue, music and effects tracks as well as my official thedigitaltheater encode of the 1080p master. I suspect that the 1080p will look much better than the 4K due to the higher bitrate, but the internet has been swooning about the glorious 4K on social media. Take your pick. I am also including the original stereo in AC3 if that is your preferred choice. Lots of options, I hope everyone is happy. BTW, who would want to live in Gotham? It seems like a nightmare…

Star Wars Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019) Trailer 1 4K DTS-HD MA 5.1 3

Star Wars - The Rise of Skywalker (2019) 5.1 Trailers

Star Wars – The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

Thank you all for your patience over the last few months, it has been a crazy spring. I have been working behind the scenes to make some site improvements. I am happy to say that things are getting back to normal, and I do have a bunch of new trailers to post. I meant to put this up a few weeks ago, but it didn’t happen. I got my hands on a foreign language 4K version of Trailer 1 – and like the 4K IMAX Avengers: Endgame trailer I have swapped out the foreign titles for upscaled English from the 1080p master. You will see a lot more detail in the non title scenes. The file is big – 1.2 GB @ 80 Mbps.
Head on over to the Star Wars Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019) page to get the first trailer in 4K with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio

Avengers: Endgame (2019) Trailer 2 4K 4096×1716 DTS-HD MA and AC3 5.1 15

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

The good news – we have the second Avengers Endgame trailer in 4K. The bad news – it is not in the IMAX aspect ratio, but the Scope aspect ratio of 4096×1716. I know that IMAX released the IMAX ratio on YouTube, but I have been unable to get a high quality source. If you have a 4K display, then this version should be an immense upgrade over the 1080p version previously released. As I did with Trailer 1, I switched the titles cards (The Avengers Endgame Logo and Release Date Information at the end) with the 1080p source upscaled to 4K. I did that because the 4K source was not English. The other change related to the audio. Since the source was not English, I multiplexed an adjusted version of the English audio from the 1080p trailer. It was adjusted to play at 24fps to match the 4K video, instead of the 23.978 frame rate of the 1080p version. As mentioned in earlier posts, I did not do a 10 bit HEVC encode because I am unable to encode HEVC at a high bit rate (greater than 10 Mbps) without introducing some playback issues such as jittering. Therefore, I am sticking with the AVC 8 bit encode. I did however, increase the bit rate for this 4K version to 40 Mbps to improve the overall image quality. I am really happy with how it looks, and I think you will too.

We are now less than a month from the release date and my son and I are totally stoked for it. I really appreciate that these trailers for Endgame have not given away too much information and the movie should have a lot of surprises. You can get the 4K trailer 2 at the Avengers: Endgame (2019) page as a .mkv with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 or a .mp4 with AC3 5.1

This one is currently in my home cinema playlist and will be for quite some time…at least until we get the first trailer for Episode IX.

Avengers: Endgame (2019) IMAX 4K Trailer 1 PCM, DTS, and AC3 5.1 8

Avengers: Endgame (2019) Trailers 1080p 5.1 Audio (PCM, DTS, AC3)

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

I went through the workflow process to determine what caused the banding issue present in the Avengers Endgame IMAX trailer that I uploaded on Dec 21. From that, I was able to eliminate a transcoding step and now have a version that is much closer to the master. The original source was JPEG2000. In the first attempt, the original was  transcoded to ProRes. The ProRes was then transcoded to H264. Some editing was performed on the H264 encode and the final video was produced from that. This new version used the ProRes created from the JPEG2000 source, and only one transcode to H264 was performed. Now, there is still some banding, but it is comparable to the original 1080p widescreen version. I don’t think I can get it any better.

You can get the new 4K version, as well as 1080p .mkv and .mp4 versions here. I have also experimented with H265 – HVEC, but I am not happy with the results. I will keep working on that, but for the mean time, I will stick with H264 – AVC.

In other news, I will also be uploading both Captain Marvel IMAX trailers, however I am going away to visit family so those will not arrive until the new year. With that I wish you a very happy remainder of 2018; and I look forward to providing you with the best quality trailers in 2019!

Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) Trailer 2 1080p and 4K UHD – PCM, DTS, and AC3 5.1 8

Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)

Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)

I am pleased to present our first movie trailer in 4K UHD, and it is the latest online trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight. The 4K version is available as a .mkv file, and I transcoded it with a bitrate somewhere around 50 Mbps. The master had a bitrate of over 500 Mbps and was over 11 Gb in size. If you have the set up to handle it, I think you will find those IMAX shots in UHD to be quite stunning. The 1080p version looks and sounds great too. This could be the best Transformers movie yet.

Will we have the first trailer for The Last Jedi tomorrow?

Here are the details of the UHD Source for those who like such things:
Format : ProRes
Bit rate : 565 Mbps
Width : 3 840 pixels
Height : 2 160 pixels
Stream size : 11.2 GiB (100%)
Color primaries : BT.709
