I do not like snakes. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I have had nightmares of rooms full of snakes. Despite that, I went to see the 2006 film ‘Snakes on a Plane’ in the theater. As I sat there in the dark, I began imagining snakes crawling around on the floor. It really freaked me out. Naturally, I also watched the 1997 film Anaconda, and its sequels. And that brings us to today, with the first two trailers for the “re-boot” of Anaconda (2025).

The original film was a horror-thriller, while this re-boot is a comedy horror-thriller about a group of friends who loved the original so much that they want to remake it. Starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black Anaconda (2025) is set to hit theaters on December 25, 2025. I am still not thrilled to watch more snakes and the nightmares they bring, but I do like a good laugh.

As mentioned, the Anaconda (2025) page has trailers 1 and 2 with 10 bit HEVC encodes and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.

Keeping with the snake theme today, the Zootopia 2 (2025) page has been updated with Trailer 2. That blue snake with one fang isn’t too scary though.

I also just added the second trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025). I only have a stereo track at the moment, but to make up for that I increased the bitrate of the HEVC encode to 64 Mbps from the usual 16.

An early update for you this week. Disney has dropped the first trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026) – the first Star Wars film in seven years since the release of Star Wars Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019). As you can tell by the title, it is about The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu (Himself) as they go on adventures.

Personally, I know nothing about these characters and I have not watched a single episode of any Star Wars programming on Disney+. I think that Star Wars works best on the big screen, or at least the original trilogy did; and there was an over saturation with content on Disney+ that felt like it was devaluing the brand. With Disney’s recent decision to move Star Wars away from Disney+ and back to Theaters, I feel as though I was right. But I guess for me to understand what is going on in this film I will have to watch The Mandalorian on Disney+.

I am happy to see that this is directed by Jon Favreau, who also directed the Disney+ series. And it also appears that this is an IMAX film as well, at least in action sequences. The trailer expands from 2.40:1 to IMAX 1.9:1 near the end. Here is a shot in the 1.9 aspect ratio.

I am happy to say I have some more 3D for those of you who are into 3D trailers. This time it is the first trailer for Disney’s Zootopia 2 (2025) which hits theaters on November 26, 2025. I have full and half 3D Side By Side encodes with the official 5.1 audio track in DTS-HD Master Audio. I also have the 2D version, which is available with a 10 bit HEVC encode as well.

I hear that there may be a new Tron: Ares (2025) trailer coming out tomorrow. I am not sure if I will have it ready for tomorrow, but pretty soon. Keep an eye out here. I also have the second trailer for Zootopia 2 (2025) but only the 2D version. I will update the Zootopia 2 (2025) page with that shortly as well.

We are heading into the busy stretch of the year as we will get a lot of first looks for the blockbusters of 2026 between now and Christmas. Lots more to come.

Wicked: For Good (2025), the sequel to Wicked (2024) is set to arrive in theaters on November 21, 2025. I did not have a chance to feature any of the trailers for the first film, but I am happy to say that I have a whole bunch of them for the sequel. As the title says, I have trailer 1 – but I also have two shorter versions – which I am calling trailers 2 and 3. Trailer 1 has a rare 7.1 sound track, and I am happy to include that on the DTS-HD Master Audio versions.

I mentioned a bit ago that I was working on improving the H265 HEVC encodes. I am still working on that, and I have plans to provide you with some exciting new things in the near future.

In other updates, you may have noticed that Mortal Kombat II (2026) has been pushed to May 2026 from this fall. I think the reasoning was that the release window was a bit crowded with the likes of Tron: Ares (2025), Predator: Badlands (2025) and The Running Man (2025); and there is no Marvel film set for next May – giving it more of a chance to stand out. If you were looking forward to it in October, you will have to be patient.

This week I have the first three trailers for Amazon MGM Studio’s Project Hail Mary (2026), starring Ryan Gosling and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. It is based upon the novel by Andy Weir (who also wrote ‘The Martian’). The film is about a teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling) who did some molecular biology back in the day. Suddenly, he wakes up on a spaceship, totally disoriented, with no clue where he is or why. This is how the trailer opens – with a big gasp from Ryland.

He slowly begins to remember that he is on a mission to save the Sun, and the Earth in the process. Throughout the universe, stars are dying due to some space microbes (I hope they explain why they don’t burn up); and Ryland is chosen to go into space and stop the microbes from killing the Sun. Oh, there is an alien too!

The first three trailers are essentially different length versions of the same trailer, each shorter than the last. The longest is Trailer 1, at 3 minutes. I do not have a 5.1 mix for this one, so it is only in stereo; but Trailers 2 and 3 have the official 5.1 sound track.

You may notice that there are two different aspect ratios used in these trailers. The space scenes are 2.20:1 and the Earth scenes are 2.39:1. I checked on IMDB, and there are also IMAX scenes that are 1.90:1, hence the Filmed for IMAX tag at the end of Trailer 1. I am assuming that the space scenes will be in 1.90:1 when shown in IMAX theaters.

For this week’s update I have the RED BAND and regular versions of Trailer 1 for Mortal Kombat II (2026). Yes, both are 4K UHD 3840×1608 and available with an HEVC 10 bit encode. Yes, both have the official 5.1 audio track. No, the regular version does not contain the blood and gore that you will find in the RED BAND version, or the F word either.

Mortal Kombat II (2026) is directed by Simon McQuoid, who returns after directing the franchise reboot in 2021. Karl Urban appears as the iconic fighter Johnny Cage. The plot centers on the Mortal Kombat tournament, which as its name suggests is a battle to the death. And the RED BAND has some intense gore-filled battle shots.

Although the RED BAND has the ‘Filmed For IMAX’ tag at the end, the filming did not use IMAX cameras. From what I have found, Simon McQuoid has indicated that the film will have some expanded ratio scenes in IMAX theaters. These were likely created in post production using digital special effects. IMAX enhanced may be a better term to use. You can get these trailers at the Mortal Kombat II (2026) page.

Mortal Kombat II (2026) is set to hit theaters and IMAX on May 15, 2026.

In other news I am performing some encoding experiments to improve the quality of my HEVC encodes. I will have more to share on this in the near future.

The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025)

Trailers 1 and 2 for The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025) have been posted. They are both available in 4K UHD with 5.1 audio. I have brought back 4K AVC encodes since some people have contacted me to say that they can not playback 4K HEVC. So, going forward I will also do AVC 4K encodes for 4K source content.

Scheduled to be released on September 5, 2025 in North America, and September 3 internationally, The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025) appears to be the final film in the series of Conjuring films. But who knows. I though Revenge of the Sith was going to be the last Star Wars film. I thought Jurassic World: Dominion (2022) was going to be the last Jurassic World film! There are also lots of spin off opportunities, including The Nun, and Annabelle. I am sure there will be more, considering that The Conjuring Universe holds the title of the highest-grossing horror film series of all time, with a total gross surpassing $2.25 billion worldwide.

One Battle After Another (2025)

I have two trailers for One Battle After Another (2025), the upcoming Paul Thomas Anderson film with an ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn and others. I heard that this is Anderson’s biggest budget film at approximately $110 million. An interesting aspect to this film is that it is shot in VistaVision.

I did not know about VistaVision until a few days ago. I will share with you what I have learned, as it is quite interesting. In the early part of the 20th Century, cinema screens were largely 1.37:1 (the Academy ratio). This is a fairly square image, similar to the old 1.3 aspect ratio of television sets. As televisions became more popular in the home, the movie industry moved to wider images to differentiate from the television screen.

In 1952, 20th Century Fox created a format called Cinerama, which offered a very wide 2.59:1 aspect ratio utilizing huge screens. Shortly after, 20th Century Fox introduced CinemaScope, which used anamorphic lenses to display a wide 2.35:1 aspect ratio image that we are familiar with today. But back in the 50’s these formats provided challenges for both filming and exhibition. Cinerama required three projectors (I am not sure how that was sync’d) and of course CinemaScope required anamorphic lenses, which can create distortion at the film edges.

To address these challenges, Paramount came up with a rather ingenious solution. They took standard 35mm film, and rotated it 90 degrees to arrive at a widescreen frame that was over 2.6 times larger than the standard 35mm. This increased the resolution providing greater detail and since it did not need an anamorphic lens, was distortion free.

The first film to be shown in VistaVision was White Christmas in 1954. Hitchcock used it for Vertigo (1958). However, the even larger Todd-AO 70mm format arrived and made VistaVision obsolete. The last Hollywood film in VistaVision was One Eyed Jacks (1961).

Last year, The Brutalist (2024) was shot with VistaVision and this year One Battle After Another (2025) and Bugonia (2025). There are more films set to come out next year, including Netflix’s Narnia adaptation. Between 1961 and 2024, due to its high resolution and low distortion, VistaVision was used for special effects scenes in a wide array of films beginning with Star Wars (1997).

I hope you are all enjoying the Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) trailer. I went to the cinema last night to see The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), which I quite enjoyed. It was refreshing to see a Marvel film that was about itself and not too focused on the larger cinematic universe. Speaking of the larger universe, the Fantastic Four will return in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) which will also see the return of many characters, and some even making their first appearance in the MCU – like Magneto. Before The Fantastic Four started last night we also got to see the second trailer for Tron: Ares (2025).

I am not sure if the theater I was in had a calibration issue, but the surrounds were not as engaged as they are when I played this in my home cinema. This soundtrack is aggressive with the music by Nine Inch Nails pounding all around with amazing directionality. I am also happy to say that there are 3D SBS encodes for trailers 1 and 2 now on the Tron: Ares (2025) page. Someone asked in the comments if I could provide 3D MVC files, but unfortunately that is something that I do not have the necessary software to do. I am also not going to do Over Under versions, I just don’t have the time to do all of those. If you really need it, you can download ffmpeg and run the following in powershell:

Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) IMAX Trailer 1 4K DTS-HD MA and AC3 5.1

This will be among the biggest trailers of the year, if not the biggest: IMAX Trailer 1 for Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) is now up. Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third film in James Cameron’s Avatar series, which began with Avatar in 2009 and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022). Back in 2022 I bought a whole row of tickets at the IMAX for friends and family. We had a great time, and I may do that again this Christmas!

This trailer has been playing exclusively in theaters along with The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), and there have been a few leaks online which were taken down almost as quickly as they appeared.

Trailer 1 gives us our first look at a new tribe on Pandora, who can (perhaps) manipulate fire. The landscape of this fire realm is ashen grey with volcanoes of running red lava – a stark contrast to the lush green and blue environs of Neytiri’s tribe. This tribe also seems to be none too friendly which would expand the dynamics of the conflict on Pandora. Especially if aligned with Miles Quaritch.

I have encodes of the 1.85:1 IMAX version of the trailer, in 4K and HD with the official 5.1 soundtrack. And as mentioned in a previous post I have 3D SBS encodes as well. You can get them at the Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) page. Avatar: Fire and Ash hits theaters on December 19, 2025!
