The second trailer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) dropped today, and while I do not yet have the 5.1 mix I added my encodes with the stereo mix. All the .mkv files, including the 10 bit HEVC have the lossless PCM stereo track. There is also a .mp4 with an AC3 encoded stereo track. I should have versions with 5.1 audio, and maybe even 4K video later in the week. Trailer 2 can be found at the Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) page.
I also quietly updated the Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire (2024) page to include the 4K IMAX Trailer 7, which is similar to the online trailer 3, but it has a scene at the end that expands from widescreen 2.40:1 to IMAX 1.90:1 at the end. It is in 4K too. I have had this for a few weeks, and have not posted it out of fear that I don’t have the authorization to do so, but it is out there in the wild now so I think I should be ok. An extra bonus for this week. Trailer 1 for The Crow (2024) with the official 5.1 track encoded in DTS-HD Master Audio. Consider this a RED BAND trailer, but it does not have one. This is a reboot of the 1994 film “The Crow” which starred Brandon Lee who was tragically killed during the filming after being accidentally shot. You can check it out at the The Crow (2024) page.

A quick update to end the week. I just add the first and second trailers for The First Omen (2024). I did not have a 444 source for the first trailer, so that is why there is no yuv444 version. It has been a bit of a slow week but I do have the first trailer for The Wild Robot (2024) in the usual HD configurations. Directed by Chris Sanders (How to Train Your Dragon) and starring Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther), Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian), Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone) and Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once), The Wild Robot tells the story of a robot named Roz who becomes abandoned on an uninhabited island and befriends a gosling (baby goose). If you did not know already, it is an animated film. The style is quite striking where it looks very realistic but also very stylized. It has a cool look. It is 4K day here at thedigitaltheater.com. To start, we have the first trailer for The Watchers (2024), written and directed by Ishana Shyamalan who is the daughter of M. Night Shyamalan. The Watchers tells the story of a young woman (Dakota Fanning) who becomes stranded in a forest and eventually trapped with three others who are watched/stalked by unknown creatures each night. It certainly has a creepy vibe and a great use of sound effects through the soundscape. Available in 4K (3840×1608) with lossless 10 bit encodes and 5.1 audio.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024)
To start off this week, I have added the second full trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024) with 10 bit video and 5.1 audio. Coming to theaters in just a few weeks on March 22, 2024, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is the follow up to Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021). Once again, Gil Kenan returns to direct a familiar cast including the stars of the original 1984 film.
I am taking a road trip to the next nearest city to see Dune: Part Two (2024) tomorrow. Unfortunately, it is not in IMAX, but it is in a Dolby® Atmos® Premium Large Format theater. My local cinema has average equipment from 1996 and as someone on Reddit pointed out “Went to see Dune tonight and it was very crackly and poppy. There was also a lot of noticeable distortion in some scenes that shouldn’t have been there. Very very loud but clarity not great. Could also use a lot more bass. Very flat. Very loud.” So needless to say I am not going to make that my experience. I will drive the extra hour and a half for a better presentation. Had it been out at Christmas, I would have been in a location with an IMAX and that would have been my preference. But tomorrow should be an almost as good as IMAX and certainly a much better than what I can get locally experience.
I am not sure what I will work on next, perhaps “The Watchers” or “I Saw The TV Glow”. If you have a preference let me know in the comments.

The Civil War (2024) page has been updated with the second trailer. This time I have a yuv444 encode as well. Written and directed by Alex Garland (who also wrote the feel good films 28 Days Later, Ex Machina, and Annihilation) the film is about a second civil war in America in the not too distant future. Civil War (2024) will be in theaters and IMAX on April 12.

All kidding aside, I just added the IMAX Trailer 2 for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024). Although it is the IMAX trailer it is not in an IMAX aspect ratio. But it is 4K. KOTPOTA will be screened in IMAX theaters, but as far as I know it was not filmed in IMAX. That is why the tag line says to ‘experience it in IMAX.’ As a side note, there is a bit of debate out there regarding Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) which also has a 4K IMAX trailer in a 2.39:1 aspect ration with the same tag line. According to this post on Reddit someone spotted a poster at a theater in Brazil which had ‘Filmed for IMAX’ in Portuguese instead of ‘Experience it in IMAX’ in Portuguese. My thought is that it is an error on the poster. That being said, both Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) will be screened at IMAX theaters, but likely in a non IMAX aspect ratio.
You may be wondering why I would get in trouble for posting the IMAX trailer for KOTPOTA when I have posted many IMAX versions before? Well, this time I am including the IMAX mix designed for IMAX theaters. Instead of 5.1 channels it is 5.0, meaning that there is no LFE channel (the AC3 encode will show as 5.1 but the LFE channel is empty – the DTS track is shows as 5.0). If you look at the waveforms for the tracks you will see that they are very different. Here, take a look:
The first two tracks are the Front Left, with the IMAX as the first and the regular 5.1 as the second. You can clearly see that there are some areas that have higher peaks in the IMAX track. These generally correspond to what would be in the LFE channel as IMAX does not use an LFE as all the speakers in the auditorium are considered full range – down to 20Hz. The third and fourth tracks are the Left Surround channels, with the IMAX version as the third. What is notable here is that the average loudness is about 7 dB lower on the IMAX track. Have fun playing around with this in your home theater. And as a warning, this may drive your front left and right more than normal. You may want to start low.
I am also including the same video encodes of the 4K IMAX tagged trailer with the standard 5.1 track – which will probably work better in your home. But if you are like Michael Bay and have a super mega ultra high end system then the IMAX5 might be the way to go.

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
I just added the REDBAND trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), which is a little more graphic and includes the F word. The trailer is available in 1920×804 with lossless 10 bit encodes and the official 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) is the only MCU film of 2024. Next year sees Captain America: Brave New World, and Thunderbolts completing Phase 5. Phase 6 kicks off with The Fantastic Four and Blade. Not a lot is known yet, but it seems that Wade/Deadpool is pulled through a time door and the multi-verse is in play as well. The pairing of Deadpool with Wolverine has been highly anticipated and will likely do very well at the box office in July. You can get the REDBAND trailer here.
