Happy New Year!

This year, thedigitaltheater.com turns 10 years old. Launched on July 22, 2015 this is now pretty much the only place in the universe to get high quality movie trailers, with lossless video and multi channel audio. Gone is the old https://demo-world.eu which used to contain a wealth of trailers in 5.1, including audio format trailers such as DTS and THX. Demo World was a great source of material. Near the end, they were borrowing encodes from me, which I took to be a great honour. The domain is still alive, and is dedicated to the history and technology of sound in film. If you are like me and have a passion for sound, head on over to https://demo-world.eu

HD-Trailers.net was also a good resource, providing links to trailers with 5.1 audio. As their source became limited, they moved to providing download links to trailers hosted by Apple. But when Apple moved their trailers from trailers.apple.com to Apple TV the page essentially died, as all the links ceased to work! That is why from the beginning, I have had full control of every link that I posted. There are user uploaded trailers that I have no control over, but I wanted to ensure that what I posted were files that I encoded and had access to the location.

Thinking about it, the biggest weakness this site has is the reliance on WeTransfer. If they ceased to exist all my links would be dead as well. However, I do have a backup of all my uploads so I would just need to upload it all again. It would not be pleasant, but not the end of the world.

thedigitaltheater.com is still here!

2024 was an historic year for this site. I promoted (for free) 37 films, an all time record; and almost twice the number as years past. I encoded and uploaded over 330 .mkv and .mp4 files (22% of all the files since 2015). Almost every film had a trailer in 4K encoded from a 4K master, many in the IMAX aspect ratio. I was really proud of the trailers I had available for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024) as there were 20 encodes of the two trailers, including the 4K IMAX. To be honest, I took the box-office performance of Furiosa a bit personally. On a personal level, I spent a lot of time working on those trailers – making sure people would have the ability to see and hear them in their best possible way, which would generate interest in seeing it in the theater. If it is a good theater, that is the place to see it. So when the numbers came in, I felt like I was doing this for nothing. It killed the momentum I had going. As someone left in the comments: “Bro dipped again lol”

But that comment was great, as it was not mean but it was to the point. It made me laugh and want to keep going. Thank you Bro dipped again lol! I try my best to respond to comments on this site, as well as on Facebook and X. I can not always do so. Rest assured that I do see what you send me.

Challenges

Even though I published a record amount of content in 2024, it did not come without challenges. The most recent being my Facebook post about the Superman (2025) trailer. It was removed and I was notified that it violated community standards, for being misleading or hateful. I submitted an appeal, which has not made a difference as far as I can tell. I don’t know what the issue is, but all I can think of is the term superman may be flagged as some sort of male superiority or misogynistic proclamation. It is the first time it has happened, and since I just added the 4K 5.1 versions to the page, I will soon add a new post and see if it happens again. BTW, since you are reading this, you have advance notice that the 4K 5.1 versions of the Superman (2025) trailer are up. !Shhhh…

Other challenges include recent Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) violations targeted at my advertising account. At the moment, I have policy violations for Venom: The Last Dance (2024) and The Creator. I have already removed The Creator, but it keeps coming up in my notifications. If you want the trailers for Venom: The Last Dance (2024) get them now!

A few years ago I had this happen with a Warner Bros. film, and when I issued a counter claim I received a letter from one of their lawyers saying it would never happen again. It has not happened since for Warner Bros. I sent in a counter claim for The Creator but nothing came of it. Which is too bad, as it was a great film with 2.76:1 trailers. Anyway, these DMCA violations seem to be increasing, and are targeted towards site revenue, not the content. If it were content, it would be a search result violation, not an advertising policy violation. This is an ongoing concern of mine.

I did not mean to turn this into a manifesto, but I guess I had a lot to say! The other challenge I have is advertising revenue. It is down, way down. It is about 10% of its peak, even though I have been publishing 100% more content. It is still covering the cost of hosting, but in no way is it coming close to meeting cost of the time and effort that goes into it. For the most part, I do this because it is a passion of mine. I want to put these trailers out so that you can experience them the best way possible.

It still boggles my mind why the studios are not doing the same. It also still boggles my mind that Dolby® hit me with that trademark infringement where I was promoting their products, and allowing people to hear their proprietary sound formats in they way they should be heard, instead of compressed AAC stereo on YouTube. (Dolby® and Atmos® are registered trademarks of Dolby® Laboratories. thedigitaltheater.com is not affiliated with or endorsed by Dolby® in any way. For more information on Dolby® products and services, visit www.dolby.com) For the record, Dolby® should be affiliated with this site. I asked, and they said they had to respect their licensees. But if I were a licensee, I would not be happy with people thinking that what they hear on YouTube is actually Dolby® Atmos®, as is the case. Anyway, you’re here because you know, you’re on YouTube because you don’t.

Call to action

If you are still here, thank you for reading all this. Yes, you did get advance notice of the Superman (2025) 4K with 5.1 trailers and I hope that you enjoy it. To keep this site going, I need to increase the revenue. The easiest way is to disable ad-blockers on your device. I know they can be obtrusive, but they serve a purpose. And if you get an ad that interests you, click on that ad. Don’t  click on ads haphazardly. If there is an ad that relates to something that you are interested in, go for it. It will help immensely. Not into ads? Why not order one of the custom trailers I can make for you at the Shop. I am more than happy to help create something that you can show off to your friends and family. You can also make a purchase through any of the Amazon links that are in various places on the site. You can also make a much appreciated donation. To make a donation, click on this donate link.

Thank you! I hope 2025 is a fantastic year for you.

Superman (2025)

Today we have the first trailer for the upcoming James Gunn film Superman (2025). You know James Gunn as the director of The Guardians of the Galaxy films from Marvel Studios. And if you didn’t, the trailer will tell you. This is an origin film, which explores Clark Kent’s (David Corenswet) reconciliation of his alien heritage and his human upbringing.

Superman (2025) will be the first film in the DC Universe (DCU) and a reboot of the Superman film series. Without getting into too much complexity, due to the mixed reception of the recent DC Extended Universe films (DCEU) there was a reorganization of the production to the newly formed DC Studios, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Entertainment. Going forward DC films will be productions of DC Studios which will form a DC Universe (DCU) designed to better compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) of Marvel Studios.

With experienced former MCU director James Gunn at the helm and the beloved Superman as the subject, this seems to be a great place to start a reboot. Ok, let’s get to the trailer. Today we have the 1080p version in stereo, with HEVC 10 bit 422 chroma subsampling. That is the best I have at the moment. I am saying this is the IMAX version as it is in the 1.90:1 aspect ratio and has the ‘Filmed For IMAX’ tag at the end. Don’t worry, I will have 4K and 5.1 versions soon. BTW, I really loved the sound as Superman crashed to Earth. Check it out at Superman (2025)

Captain America: Brave New World (2025)

Today we have the IMAX version of the second trailer for Captain America: Brave New World (2025). This IMAX version has some shots in the IMAX 1.90:1 aspect ratio, mostly from action scenes. It starts out in widescreen, but the first IMAX shot is when Captain America is flying towards the ground. It is a great scene, and looks even better with the added image area. I am looking forward to seeing this in February.

In my spare time I have been watching the X-Men films to bring the girlfriend up to speed so that she can make the most of Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). I am hoping to screen that one before we hit the theaters for Captain America: Brave New World (2025).

Head on over to the Brave New World page where you will find the second IMAX trailer with a variety of encodes, including 4K 10 bit video with the official 5.1 sound track in DTS-HD Master Audio.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025) Filmed for IMAX

I just uploaded the IMAX version of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025) Trailer 1, the sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One (2023). The IMAX version in the trailer is entirely in the IMAX 1.90:1 aspect ratio – like the image above. There are several encodes available including lossless 4K 10 bit with 444 chroma subsampling and 5.1 DTS-HD Audio; and HD with AC3 5.1 for a wide range of compatibility. I believe these are the best quality available. You can download the IMAX and non-IMAX versions at the Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025) page. I loved Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One (2023) and I can’t wait to see the conclusion in IMAX. The Final Reckoning hits theaters on May 23, 2025.

Thunderbolts* (2025)

As I mentioned last week, here is the second trailer for Thunderbolts* (2025) with the official 5.1 audio. As expected, it is a shorter version (with some additional shots) than the online version posted earlier. I do not have it in 4K either, but likely that will come with the IMAX version which will probable be along soon as well.

Thunderbolts* (2025) is directed by Jake Schreier, who has a background in directing a lot of music videos and this will be his first blockbuster. I am looking forward to it, as well as Captain America: Brave New World (2025).

You can get the new trailer 2 for Thunderbolts* at the Thunderbolts* (2025) page.

Captain America: Brave New World (2025)

Happy Saturday! I just completed the encodes of the second trailer for Captain America: Brave New World (2025). Set to be released next February, Brave New World stars Anthony Mackie as Captain America and Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Captain America: Brave New World (2025) follows the events of the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) and sees Sam Wilson (formerly the Falcon) officially taking up the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers’ retirement. It is the penultimate film in Phase VI of the MCU which closes with the upcoming release of Thunderbolts* (2025).

Trailer 2 is available with HD encodes featuring 10 bit video and the official 5.1 audio mix. You can get them at the Captain America: Brave New World (2025) page. I expect to have a 4K IMAX version before too long.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025)

A couple of updates this week. First, we have the teaser for the sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part One (2023) which is not called Part Two, but Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025). It has a final film in the series vibe, which I hope is not the case.

The first trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025) is available with 4K and HD encodes. The 4K is also available with 10 bit HEVC video, and all have the official 5.1 audio.

I also added the second trailer for Thunderbolts* (2025) which has a long run time at 3:40 and is available in HD with PCM stereo audio. I should be getting a 5.1 version soon, but I don’t think it will be the full 3.40 run time – likely a cut down.

Thunderbolts* (2025) 2.40:1 and IMAX 1.90:1

The IMAX version of the first trailer for Thunderbolts* (2025) has been added. You can see from the image above the difference between the two – in one shot anyway. The trailer starts out in the same 2.40:1 aspect ratio as the regular version, but switches to IMAX 1.90:1 at the Marvel Studios logo. From that point on it retains the full 1.90:1 ratio for the remainder of the run time. You can find this trailer in 4K and HD with a several encodes, including 444 10 bit HEVC with DTS-HD Master Audio and AC3 5.1 at the Thunderbolts* (2025) page.

Thunderbolts* (2025)

Today we have our first look at Marvel Studios’ upcoming Thunderbolts* (2025), the ensemble anti-superhero film set to explore the darker side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Thunderbolts* is the 36th film in the MCU and is the final film in Phase Five of the MCU. Thunderbolts* promises to offer a fresh take on the superhero genre, focusing on a team of morally ambiguous anti-heroes, many of whom we’ve already met in past films. The trailer provides a glimpse into the film’s tone and the dynamics within the team.

Thunderbolts* is comprised of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) under the command of the calculating Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). It is not yet clear if Harrison Ford will make an appearance as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross after his first outing in the role in Captain America: Brave New World (2025).

Thunderbolts* is positioning itself as a bold new entry in the MCU. It taps into the growing trend of exploring morally ambiguous characters, much like DC’s Suicide Squad or The Boys. It remains to be seen if Thunderbolts* could mark a tonal shift for Marvel, one that resonates with audiences craving more mature storytelling. The tone seems more along the lines of Captain America: The Winter Soldier than the more recent outings of the Guardians of the Galaxy or Thor.

Trailer 1 is now available at the Thunderbolts* (2025) page.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024)

I have to admit, I have never owned a SEGA console, played Sonic the Hedgehog, or watched any of the pervious films. So I know almost nothing about it. I do know that it is scheduled for release by Paramount on December 20, 2024. Sonic can move very fast and it is a blend of live action and computer animation. So if you are looking for the first trailer in lossless 10 bit video and DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio, head on over to the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) page.
