The latest trailer for The Batman (2022) dropped the other day. Set for theatrical release on March 4, 2022 this will be Robert Pattinson’s first outing as the caped crusader. The latest trailer is Trailer 5, also known as The Bat and The Cat, doesn’t reveal too much more about the plot but it certainly delivers on dark gritty action.
This trailer was sourced from the ProRes 422 HD master and there is an H265 YUV422 10 bit encode as well as H264 YUV420 8 bit encodes. Audio is the official stereo. I expect to have a 4K version available in the next week or so.

Jason Statham stars as Orson Fortune in Operation Fortune (2022) directed by Guy Ritchie. Who doesn’t like a good action comedy? Especially if it stars someone like Jason Statham? Not me that’s for sure. Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre (2022) looks like a fun hit of action with an interesting cast, fast cars and explosions all set in stunning locations. I will certainly make the trip to the cinema to see it in a couple months.
There are two different sources for this trailer. The first was a cinema DCP which the 2048×858 YUV444 10 bit encode was derived from. The second was the ProRes 422 HD master which the 1920×804 YUV422 10 bit as well as the YUV420 8 bit encodes were derived from. Audio is unofficial, meaning an English dub of an official non English 5.1 track. Download links are below.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
“Don’t cast that spell.” The second Doctor Strange film looks like it picks up from “Spider-Man: No Way Home” dealing with the aftermath of Doctor Strange casting the spell he was warned not to. I still have not had a chance to get to the cinema to see “No Way Home” so I have no idea what the consequences are. The encodes here are from the ProRes master. There is a lossless 10 bit YUV422 version as well as a standard 8 bit YUV420. I do expect to eventually get a 4K version as well as 5.1 audio. That may not arrive until next week.

I just realized that I have yet to see the second film in this series… I will add that to my watch list. December has usually been a fairly busy time with the release of new trailers for the early summer blockbuster season, but not so much this year. Things may pick up next week but for now the all I have is the recently dropped first trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022). I only have a stereo mix, so I am including the PCM master as well as an AC3 stereo version. On the video side, I did a lossless 422 10 bit H265 encode as well as standard 420 8 bit encodes. I will keep an eye out for a 5.1 mix and/or a 4K version should one be available. The download links are below.

The second trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) is here! As it was sourced from a theatrical digital cinema package, I have created a number of encodes to best represent the source. Not everyone will be able to playback all these versions, but if you can, the HEVC YUV 444 10 bit encode is the best. These all work on my installation of Media Player Classic – Home Cinema but do not on VLC. Your results may vary.
I do not yet have a 4K or IMAX version. If I get it I will absolutely upload to this site. You can get the 1080p encodes from the links below:

Disney and Pixar are returning to the big screen in 2022. In addition to Turning Red (2022) which is due in March, Lightyear hits cinemas in June. As always with Pixar, the image quality is stunning and I put together several encodes to provide the best representation possible. This was sourced from the ProRes 422 HQ master, which has been encoded to HEVC 422 and AVC 420. On the audio side there are also several options. First there is an unofficial English 5.1 mix, which was derived from an official French 5.1 mix and the official English stereo mix. I spent three hours on this and I am very confident that it is very close to the real thing. I didn’t do a great job on Spider-Man, despite my best efforts. Fortunately, I did get some feedback which I took constructively even if it wasn’t quite intended to be so. Since then I have been raising the bar and I hope the efforts show.
I have included the official French and the official stereo English mixes on the .mkv files. So if you want the French track, or if you want to compare against my English mix, or if you prefer an official English mix even if it is only stereo – you now have it. There is no 4K version yet. If I get it, I will post it.

Still set for release on Match 4, 2022 ‘The Batman’ stars Robert Pattinson as Batman who takes on the Riddler and corruption in Gotham City. I have been working on these encodes for a few days and I am pleased to be able to post them for your enjoyment. As the title says, this is the IMAX version, however it is not in an IMAX aspect ratio but 2.40:1 widescreen. Checking the technical specs at IMDB, it lists the aspect ratio as 2.39:1 and there is no indication of the use of IMAX cameras or lenses. That suggests there are no scenes in IMAX 1.90:1. So what makes this the IMAX version? Well, at the end it has the “Experience in IMAX” tag!
This is a dark and gritty trailer with a lot of shadows. There are several encodes, of varying qualities from 4K UHD 10 bit with 444 chroma subsampling to HD 8 bit. The default audio is an unofficial 5.1 mix derived from an official IMAX non English track. The centre was created from the official English stereo master and I also added an LFE as the IMAX track was 5.0 and not 5.1. If that is too much tinkering for you, the official lossless PCM stereo track is also included on all the .mkv files. If you are looking for the 4K DC Fandome Teaser, you can find it here.
Also, I mentioned another trailer for Dune was coming. Unfortunately I was mistaken and did not have what I thought I had.

This was sourced from an Apple ProRes 422 10 bit encode, so I am providing a H265 422 10 bit encode as the version as the best quality and most representative of the source. The audio is the official 5.1 track, and in fact is taken from the version I uploaded on September 9. As mentioned in the post for the Eternals (2021) trailer, I will be working on the IMAX version of Dune (2021) trailer 6 next. More to come.

Here we go, the IMAX version of Trailer 2 for Marvel Studios’ Eternals (2021) which will hit theatres in just a few weeks. This IMAX trailer has a mix of widescreen and IMAX shots and was sourced from a 12 bit Jpeg 2000 .mxf file. In other IMAX trailer news, I still have Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) to post and I have the IMAX 4K version of Dune (2021) Trailer 6 which I will also be uploading as soon as it is processed. As mentioned earlier, I wanted to revisit the IMAX version of the second trailer for Top Gun: Maverick (2022) to see if I could produce an encode that was a better representation of the 12 bit 444 chroma subsampled source. I believe I have.
The process I used was to convert the .mxf from Jpeg 2000 444 12 bit to a .mov as DNxHR 444 12 bit. This was used to encode the H.265 444 10 bit and H.265 422 10 bit encodes. I also attempted to encode an H.264 420 8 bit version and while there are some artifacts, it is an improvement over the original from 2019.
Here is an link that illustrates some of the differences in the image between YUV 444 10bit and YUV 420 8 bit. The first image is a screen shot from the 1920×1012 yuv444 10 bit encode and when you move your mouse over it, it will switch to the same frame from the yuv420 8 bit encode of 2019.
You will notice that there is a lot more shadow detail in the 444 encode, such as the sign to the bottom left of the open door that clearly says DOORS MUST BE KEPT CLOSED which was lost in the 420 encode. As well there is a smoother gradient in the colors going out from the hangar door. As well there is a noticeable difference in the “noise” in the sky.
The audio is an unofficial 5.1 mix, where the centre channel was created from an official stereo mix.
I was able to playback the yuv444 version using Media Player Classic – Home Cinema, but it would not play at all when I tried using VLC. I have no idea how it will play on blu-ray players or game consoles. Also coming soon are IMAX 4K UHD encodes for The Eternals (2021) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).
